Utility Week: A new-look retail market takes shape

In an article on Utility Week, Nigel Hawkins assesses how the energy market is likely to progress after members have been falling due to the surge in gas prices. As of 2nd February 2022, 27 energy suppliers haver folded since August 2021. From the collapsed pile of new energy suppliers, a few companies may emerge as sector consolidators. The most plausible outcome for the future of the market is a four-pillar structure which is led by Centrica, therefore securing a further enhanced market under a higher price cap.
