Podcast: Is Software Ready for the Energy Transition?
Oct 8, 2026
We talk a lot about the physical side of the energy transition: wind farms, batteries, heat pumps and EVs. But what about the software running quietly behind the scenes?
That was the question at the heart of a recent episode of Talking New Energy, the podcast from LCP Delta. Our CEO, Matt Hirst, joined host Sam Hollister (Principal and Head of UK Market Strategy at LCP Delta) to discuss why the systems underpinning the energy market matter more than ever, and what happens when they fall behind.

Key Insights
Energy has become a two-way relationship: Customers now generate, store and export their own power (solar, batteries, EVs), so energy companies are shifting towards providing energy as a service, driven by the “four Ds” of decarbonisation, digitisation, decentralisation and democratisation.
Data growth is outpacing back-office systems: The move from monthly meter reads to half-hourly and behind-the-meter data has left many suppliers with fragmented tech stacks and siloed data warehouses.
The I&C market is hit hardest: Separate pricing and billing systems cause manual workarounds, billing inaccuracies and revenue leakage, and these problems multiply as suppliers grow. Unified systems improve accuracy, cash flow and customer insight.
AI speeds the game up rather than changing it: It helps with forecasting, trading, customer targeting and automation, but protecting human energy expertise and the next generation of talent remains essential.
Migrations succeed through process change, not just new tech: Avoid copying the old system, secure organisation-wide buy-in, plan integrations with third-party systems, and cleanse data before migrating.
Our thanks to Sam Hollister and the LCP Delta team for hosting the conversation.
