Utiligroup support local charities in Giving Back campaign

As a global business we are supporting a total of six local charities across the UK and North America in order provide much needed aid amid the Covid pandemic. ESG are donating to three charities local to their offices: South Shore YMCA, North Texas Food Bank and the Houston Food Bank. Whilst Utiligroup are donating to two charities local to their Chorley office: Inspire Youth Zone and Chorley Help the Homeless and one local to their Bridgend office: Emmaus South Wales.

Is it time to switch to electric heating and cleaner energy?

A report by the Confederation of British Industry recommends that the government ban the installation of traditional gas boilers in both homes and workplaces in 2025. This Is Money recently posted an article that highlights the top five reasons why it may be viable to swap from gas heating to electric - including reducing carbon emissions and cutting running and maintenance costs. Carving out some time for Halloween fun

To celebrate Halloween and whilst we are all working from home, we decided to bring our staff together in a global pumpkin carving competition. We received over 40 spook-tacular entries from our UK, US and Japan offices. The level of creativity and skill from our staff was amazing and we are so glad that people were able to take some time out to enjoy some light hearted fun with their families.

Prospering from the Energy Revolution mini-series

Starting on the 5th of November ktn are hosting the ultimate mini-series of webinars to tell the story of Smart Local Energy Systems (SLES) and the Prospering from the Energy Revolution (PFER) programme. The webinars are following a Six in Sixty format offering a minimum of six speakers in a fast-paced, hour long session, covering topics such as 'Data & Digitalisation' and 'Technology & Infrastructure'.

Energy Networks Association launches cyber security guidance

The Energy Networks Association alongside BEIS and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) have published a report for distributed energy resources to support them in connecting to the grid safely and securely without compromising the integrity of the wider network. These guidelines support end-to-end security for distributed energy and will help mitigate the risk of a cyber-attack.

Western Power Distribution makes flexibility advancements

Western Power Distribution's IntraFlex project procured over 50MW of flexibility services over a two month period in the first phase of the IntraFlex project. The findings of the trial regarding the buying and selling of flexibility in a continuous short-term market can now be evaluated with the aim of bringing new routes to market for flexibility providers.

We’re proud to empower Bulb

Bulb announces the launch of what it claims is the UK's first 100% renewable smart prepayment tariff and we are proud to empower and support this initiative through our smart metering software. The green energy supplier's prices are £60 below the 'prepayment' price cap set by Ofgem.

Smart Meter Installations Increase Year-on-year

According to new data from ElectraLink smart meter installations have increased year-on-year for the first time since lockdown began in March. It is estimated that a total of 1,333,000 smart meters have been installed in the UK so far this year and around 14,038,000 have been installed since the programme was introduced.

Landis+Gyr & Calvin Capital Extend Partnership

Landis+Gyr has extended its partnership with finance broker Calvin Capital to help accelerate the smart meter rollout in the UK. As part of the UK's smart meter initiative there is to be a total of 53 million SEMTS2 meters to be deployed before 2025 and this partnership aims to supply between 400,000 and 2 million of these meters.

So Energy aims to go further with ‘Solar System’

So Energy have announced a new Solar and storage offering in the coming months for new and existing customers. So Energy will install solar panels and a battery into customers homes whilst remotely controlling the system, allowing benefits with home energy consumption, weather data and managing wholesale energy prices, as well as carbon intensity and grid capacity. Their Solar and storage system could benefit both the customer and the grid, using smart controls to either charge or discharge the battery when there is the greatest gain. It's great to see this innovation by our valued customer, empowering change for their energy customers.

‘Smart Intervention is required’ – Energy Asset Networks

Energy Assets Networks recently highlighted that rapid electricity demand from EVs could lead to system overload - and without intervention, the projected rise for electricity to power domestic charging could lead to outages. To prevent this, smart intervention solutions are needed, such as the Project DINO (Domestic Infrastructure and Network Optimisation) trial - a partnership between Evergreen Smart Power, Energy Assets Networks and Myenergi. It's great to see how Project DINO and intensive practical innovation is leading to thought provoking results from our valued customer Energy Assets.
